Finding a Treatment for Halitosis

The Effort to Cure Bad Breath

Bad breath is no laughing matter, and since time immemorial, man has sought different treatments for halitosis. There have been innumerable concoctions and mixtures of different ingredients made to either be eaten, drunk or gargled just to get rid of this stinky condition.

It is estimated that people spend nearly $10 billion each year on oral care products to treat bad breath, hoping to have minty fresh breath all the time. Some times though, these bad breath remedy products only serve to mask the odor and it’s back after a short time.

To effectively treat halitosis, you must first know what’s causing it. Eighty to ninety percent of the time, halitosis is caused by a mouth that doesn’t get cleaned regularly; poor oral hygiene is the culprit. Having unhealthy teeth and gums will definitely cause bad breath. Visiting your dentist and having your teeth and gums treated and cleaned can give you better smelling breath. Your dentist will be able to remove the plaque and tartar where you find halitosis causing bacteria.  Then follow up by keeping your mouth clean with regular daily oral care – brushing, flossing, and tongue cleaning, and by using good oral products like those by Therabreath

Halitosis may also be a symptom of an underlying condition. Occasionally bad breath may be caused by gastrointestinal conditions or by your diet. People who are on a low-carb diet usually have bad breath because they produce more ketones when fat is burned by the body instead of carbs. The proper treatment then would be to alter your diet.

Remember to check in with your dentist regularly.  Halitosis may be a common problem but that doesn’t mean that it should be taken for granted. Seek the proper treatment for halitosis and you would be more confident about yourself and be able to breathe a sigh of relief.
