Bad Breath after Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Tooth Extraction and Bad Breath

Sometimes people will notice that they have bad breath after having a wisdom tooth extracted.  There are many causes for this.  If you didn’t have bad breath before the tooth extraction you are probably wondering what’s happening.

In most cases bad breath is the result of poor oral hygiene resulting in the increase bacteria production which leads to bad breath.  When you have your wisdom tooth pulled, it takes time for the extraction to heal, so you may experience blood clots and continued bleeding during the healing process.  This all can add to increased bacteria and the only way around this is to practice good oral hygiene.

Any time you have a tooth extracted you are susceptible to infection which also can increase mouth odor.  Keeping the area clean and free of food particles will help prevent infections.  Be sure to follow your dentist’s post extraction instructions to the letter.  As the extracted tooth socket heals you’ll notice a reduction in your bad breath.  If you continue to have mouth odor or bad breath consult your doctor.

By practicing good oral hygiene you’ll not only avoid having bad breath, but you also avoid infection and illnesses.  A great product that can control and kill the bacteria that causes bad breath is Therabreath.
