Halitosis Listerine Mouthwash and Bad Breath – Bad breath has been around a long time and so have products to try to get rid of it. Check out this Listerine ad from the 50’s. I especially enjoy the part where the commentator says “in actual scientific tests” Listerine does four times better than toothpaste. Yes, what Marge murmurs “I’ll never hold a man until I do something about my breath” still applies today. There aren’t too many personal odors as bad as bad breath, especially on a date.

Does Your Breath Smell Like Rotten Eggs?

Bad breath is caused by volatile sulfur compounds or VSC’s that are produced by anaerobic bacteria in your mouth. These compounds are measured in parts per billion by an instrument called a Halimeter. The way this instrument works is that you put the end of the tube into your mouth and breathe into it and it will show a digital reading.
