Count on Dog Breath
Dogs aren’t called "Man’s Best Friend" for nothing. They’re loyal, obedient and protective of their owners and they love us a lot. In return, we take care of them, feed them and ensure that they are in the pink of health and love them right back. We provide them with different medications and vet visits to make sure that they are healthy. We need to be observant and attentive to our pets because it’s hard to understand what they are feeling.
There are lots of good dogs, and doggy breath comes with every one of them. This doesn’t mean that you can’t do anything about it. You should ensure that your dog has good oral hygiene not just because the bad odor bothers you, but because good oral hygiene can extend your dog’s life by about five years – that’s a good thirty five years in humans.
Here’s a fact; eighty percent or more of dogs three years old and above have periodontal disease. This causes the weakening of the gums and bones in the mouth supporting the teeth. Bacteria flourish in mouths and these bacteria can spread to other internal organs of the dog, which in turn may lead to serious doggy diseases and conditions.
Just like Mike Peters’ best selling book, Grimmy: Good Dog, Bad Breath, your pet may have certain undesirable traits, like bad breath, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do anything about it. Check with your vet, provide your dog the best health care you can, brush his teeth regularly, and you can establish a great relation with your dog, and a long lasting one too.

I assume this is the same for cats. I don’t really mind cat breath, but I always think that perhaps I should be brushing their teeth from time to time. They eat only dry food so I’d like to think it helps with dental health and lessens leftover food stuck to their teeth. I try to get them to drink often as well to help keep hydrated and prevent decay.
