Don’t want to take care of your halitosis with soap (sodium lauryl sulfate) or alcohol and dyes (mouthwash)? You can forage in your cupboards or in your garden and come up with a few things that taste great and even work to foil bad breath. One of my favorites for grabbing as I dash out of the house without brushing is whole cloves. Chew gently on a couple of those and your breath will be sure to brighten up. Be sure to spit them out after a few minutes!
Tea tree oil or melaleuca oil from the tree Melaleuca alternifolia, is another of my favorites. The taste will make your hair curl, your eyes pop, and your tongue do flip-flops you never knew it was capable of, but melaleuca oil is great stuff! It has a track record of helping cure gum problems, sore throats, and bad breath besides a whole host of other magical things. If you can’t get your hands on some decent tea tree oil toothpaste, put a few drops onto your toothbrush and on your dental floss, and send that bad breath packing.
There are several more herbs for bad breath that have been used to good effect. Parsley and mint and eucalyptus are some of them. See if you have any favorites in the list.
